sewing up a storm

A lot of times when I do pillow, I do this-- front fabric is cut to size. The back I cut two pieces with several inches of overlap. You sew the middle edge double hem- so it has a nice finish and then sew all three pieces together with side edges matching and finished edges overlapping on the back. Then just flip right side out and slide the cushion into the flap. Usually less gaping than cushions with opening near end. Also allows you to decorate the front with edging and such before putting pillow together. You can also use ribbon sewn to each back piece to keep closed.

You can often find a zipper foot for your machine. I recommend because it's great for adding cording and other accents to home dec projects. I like the blue striped cushion--I think it turned out nice.
thanks hoozey. unfortunately hubby came home and dissed all of them. LOL

i had chosen NOT to use zippers and was quite proud of how they had come out. he went and picked up the small pillows and pointed to the gaping bits and said it HAS to have zippers

to which *i* said, well go put it in yourself then.

sheeesh. talk about grateful husbands............

but i will try your suggestion about putting the overlap at the back.

especially since i went to such trouble to put a bias strip as trimming on the edge

my machine is a 1970s elna. i'm not even sure if i *can* get a zipper foot. LOL.
