So meet Frederick the Wolfhound:
This first photo on the left is what he looks like outside our back door. Sometimes you'll turn around and he'll be gone somewhere in the garden. Then you'll look around, and he'll be Right There. It's like dejavu or something. Totally eerie, coz he's so quiet.
It's a good thing we have tile floors, because at least most of the time you can hear him somewhere. But every once in a while, like last night when I was in the study, I heard movement, and I poked my head out into the living area, and didn't see him anywhere. But I could hear noises. I look around, and he managed to sneak into the study right behind me, without me ever noticing!
I love his brindle coat. This profile pic will give you a better idea of his markings, as will the one below it. I also adore his white soxs which are only on his front two feet, and not his back two.
So you might wonder how he came to the name of Fred. He didn't come named. We went through a whole list of names before we settled on Fred. Personally I think he looks like a Fred. But on top of that, his brindle markings reminded the BF of Fred Flintstone. Hence, the Fred. Of course ten minutes after we both agreed on his name, I realised my uncle (who isn't the most popular in our family) is also named Fred. As Fred is registered under my name, technically, he has the exact same name as my uncle (!!!)
The bf argued that Fred should have his last name, rather than mine. Which was fine by me, but when I strung his name out, bf realised that his great grandfather's name was also Fred! Whooops!
So Fred here is named after both our families. LOL
Below is actually a rather scary looking pic of Fred. He was playing with newspaper last night (see shredded pieces in the background) and I was trying to take a pic. The flash delayed the shot by a sec, and I got this one instead. It's actually pretty funny when you look at him. Note the green rug below. He was bored the other night and was pawing away at it, sort've like it was grass.
That string toy is his first toy. You can tell how easily he just rips into things. And I mean, those fangs would probably help a lot too.
So the search is on to find a companion for Fred the Wolfhound. We found nothing today, but looking up pet resuce (website for dogs), I've narrowed it down to 2 contenders.
Moosie! I managed to find a wolfhound girl! but she's abt a year older than Fred, which is currently her biggest downfall. =( Well that, and she was listed back in June though =( so dunno if she's still available. Doesn't she just look sweet and adorable though???
I'm going to ring her up first thing tomorrow morning =D
DO'h! Just found out she's adopted.
*sulks*
The other puppy, well dog really, is a great dane cross bull mastiff. Boyfriend prefers this one, because she's abt 6 months younger. So I guess we'll go with the great dane. *sigh* I had my heart set on another wolfhound.... *pouts*
Official no buy for the next two weeks. Mortgage payment due out this week and well, I really do have enough stuff.
In the two and a half weeks since I've been back I have already bought:
1. Coastal Scent Brushes
2. Brush set from MAD
3. Lumiere brushes
(is it just me, or am I noticing a trend here?)
4. Tub of Meow and some gel liners from Lili
5. Some MIY oils and hydrosols
I really am officially broke.
On top of which, now that we've got a puppy, I think it's more important to buy chew toys, than it is to buy mmu and bargain brushes etc. I know, radical thinking! crazy talk! but an addict's gotta do what an addict's gotta do.
In the meantime, I'll quietly put together my ghost shopping cart for 2 weeks hence.
Currently there is Ghost Carts from Shopping Past for: Garden of Wisdom (i'm running low on some MIY supplies), an electric mixer and grinder thingy from Big W (last I saw they were $20 and $10 each respectively), TKB (lotsa lotsa micas, and some jars etc) and possibly Fyriannae. Although I'm going to miss their July sale =/ But I seriously can't take any more money out. It's going to be: Live on Whatever you Have in Your Wallet Fortnight.
Fred Update:
Fred had his first 'incident' last night. We think he's probably been half trained before. And our theory of Fred escaping or being let go from a breeder is still holding strong. He got up and wandered around a bit to-ing and fro-ing, and we didn't think much of it. But the next thing you know, you hear the trickling of dog pee against the wall! NOOOoooooo!!!
Our fault for not paying enough attention. But Lesson 1: when he goes and does something new, keep an eye on him. He might be trying to tell you something.
Fred also seems quite capable of clearing out his digestive system. Last night was punctured by a number of distinct Freddy Farts. Due to where he was sitting, bf copped most of it. There were constant cries of 'Fred!!!! What have you been eating?!?!' I ended up moving my electric oil burner into the living room and putting on a new wax melt. It took a while, but finally the smell of Jasmine took over. Although, after any release, it was always smarter/safer to move out, just a tad.
Lesson 2: Keep wax melts, oil burner, and any other smelling devices close at hand. And NEVER sit downwind of him.
Fred's also very quiet. He's so placid and doesn't bark at all. In fact, he doesn't even whine. But we did hear him bark once yesterday in the afternoon at something in the backyard. I just heard a thump outside, and stuck my head out. He's playing with a bone we gave him, and he was throwing it around and pouncing. So cute.
Wolfhounds are supposed to follow the credo: "Gentle when stroked. Fierce when provoked." They're known as Gentle Giants, and wikipedia suggests that you shouldn't play rough with him at a young age. Because these were bred to hunt down wolves. So if you play rough at a young age, they'll become quite aggressive :S But it sucks too, because he's so placid to begin with. I think I'm going to be too scared to play around with him a little. It'll all just have to be stroke, stroke, stroke.
Now, I know the responsible and sensible thing to do is to desex him (he didn't come desexed), but we saw what happened to bf's mum's dog after he got desexed. Imagine a sprightly lively naughty little Jack Russell, become a portly, stately, quiet desexed Jack Russell. His demeanour and character COMPLETELY changed. If we desex Fred, I'm worried we'll get a comatose puppy! LOL.
But he is very very sweet. And all the literature I've read so far suggests he's very loyal and a great companion dog. I'll concur to that - last night he followed me around the house every time I get up (which is both sweet and a little disconcerting).
Both bf and I are currently battling it out to be the Favourite. So far I'm winning, although I think I cheated a little, because I bonded first with him, petting him and cuddling him in the back seat of the car while the bf went to get groceries for dinner. Since then, he's followed me everywhere, every chance he can get. Although bf has been feeding him, and disciplining him. And last night played with him a little. By the end of the evening, Fred was just as happy sitting with the bf in front of the tele while I did some MIY in the kitchen, as he was previously sitting somewhere closer to me. Is it just me, or is there a distinct green tinge to my skin tone? ;)
Fred also appears quite intelligent. We shut most of the house doors so that he couldn't get into them. As he was following me around, I was quite particular about it when I shut doors so he couldn't follow me. I only had to do it once. After that, he just sits outside, like, lies in the kitchen area, and waits. He doesn't attempt to follow me into any rooms any more. The literature also suggests that they're quick to figure out what you want them to do. And that we have to be very patient and understanding with him. I think we're doing that. We fussed over him for a little bit after we let him back in after the Peeing on the Wall incident.
Fred also doesn't like enclosed places very much. Not that I blame him. We gave him the front room (yes, he has his own room, how spoilt is he?) because the floor is covered in lino (so easy cleaning if he messes up), and bf had to carry him into the room last night because Fred didn't want to go in. And usually he'll come to me if I call him. Yup, he's already starting to respond to his name. I was calling him back from the kitchen last night (he discovered the bin), and I just said "Freeed" in a warning tone, and he pops his head around the corner. Awww...
He's also very very cute. We let him out last night while the BF bbq'd dinner (no dogs allowed inside while we eat) and I popped outside to see how things were going. As I went back in, Fred tilts his head to a side and just looks at me, as if to say: 'what about me? let me in? please?' Doggies are the BEST guilt trippers I have ever met.. Such wonderful facial expressions.
Anyway, I've gushed enough. Poor you. You come to find info about mmu. And all you hear about is Fred, Fred, Fred. LOL
So typical to geminisc form, I have yet again accidently left my camera cable at work. In my defence, I am down with a cold (thanks to trusty boyfriend) so remembering to bring a cable was the least of my worries. *big sneeze*
Anyway, two exciting things to share. Or maybe one, depending on how you see things.
1. Trusty MAD has another sale on:
UNTIL THE END OF JULY!
10% OFF All Orders Over $20
15% OFF All Orders Over $50
20% OFF All Orders Over $75
25% OFF All Orders Over $100!
This includes items already on sale, closeouts, etc.
I really should decide on the MAD mmu, coz at $3.50 a 5gram jar, it's definately worth it. From the newsletter it also looks like there's a few more foundations out too - if you never found your match. I think I'm ok with medium, but I need to test again soon. Meanwhile, there's SO much foundation left behind from my previous crazy sampling, that I don't think I really need to? ARGH.
2. and probably the MOST exciting, is that we bought a dog today!! :D I know, I know, why didn't I just start off with this to begin with?? Well, because I'm an addict at heart, and had to share some mmu love before I got to my real life. Oh ok, that sounded soooo cheesey.
Anyway, I've started taking pics, but thanks to my cable being at work, you'll just have to make do with the homepage that we found him on. Hopefully it will still be up when you click on it: Fred
We took forever deciding on his name. Other options were, Graeme, Whisky and Lupe (spanish from Wolf). But in the end we decided that he looked like a Fred.
Already he's gone and tipped over the compost bin, to which the bf scolded and Fred pelted away. Poor thing. At least he's got a friend in me, right? He licked me on the nose earlier. hee hee. Can you tell I'm smitten yet?
He's a 8 month old wolfhound. And I think he's taken quite a liking to me =D He follows me around everywhere. It's so sweet! Currently he's hanging out on his bed near the back door.
We're going to go to another pound tomorrow to find him a friend. To be honest, I think I only need one dog. How much love can I share? But the other dog is more for him than for us. We're concerned he'll get lonely waiting for us to come home everyday. Dog owners, tell me, how do you do it? I've never owned more than one dog. And I'm scared I'll do favourites. Coz I know I will. LOL. Give me advice! Any and all!
Anyway, more piccies of him will up be on Monday. Promise!
