TA-DA!!!!
AND.............
They were in the bargain rack for $29 each. Reduced from $69.95.
What? Sorry did you say something? Yes, I know I just recently bought some shoes. What? No, I will never have enough shoes. Yeah, so I only have two feet, your point is? Look, different outfits require different shoes ok?
And I have LOADS of pink tops and skirts. They'll match!!!! What? Oh yeah, don't worry that the green pair are slightly small. I also bought.. some SHOE SPRAY! It's designed to stretch your shoes. So guess what this means? I'm gonna be buying lots of shoes - that don't necessarily have to fit anymore! Because I can stretch them with my SHOE SPRAY!
What do you mean that's silly? Huh? I should only buy shoes that fit in the first place? *scoffs* But these are SO PRETTY.
Hrrm? Yes, I know the green ones are Size 5, and the Pink ones are Size 7. I'm a size 6-7 depending on the brand, ok? So the green ones - after I put the stretchy stuff on, should stretch out to my size 6. And anyway, I've never worn shoes with elastic before. I need to know if they are 'me' or not. And they're so cute from the side! And they're shiny! And dark green! And I love being a bit different - although I admit, I'd love for these silk/satin pink ones to be black or dark grey. But they sold out already =(
The pink ones - the smaller size hurt too much at the front. So the sales lady suggested I go up one size and then put in these rubbery ball of feet thingies, so my foot won't slide too much, and the shoe will fit.
How much did you say? They cost $10 each. I know I could probably have gotten the foot slider things cheaper at priceline, but I'd tested these ones out, and I knew they would work...
And well, I've never seen the shoe spray anywhere else. Huh? What do you mean maybe I've never looked? How would you know?? You stalk me or something?
Hrmpf.
Look, so I spent a bit more than I was supposed to, and I haven't even paid my bills yet, and I'm going to be flat broke again. But my, aren't my feet/shoes pretty???
*clicks heels together*
So I went out for a breath of fresh air this afternoon, and walked back by the jewellery store..............
A whopping $30 later, i came out with 3 rings, 3 necklaces, and 5 pairs of earrings. gulp.
*cries*
That was my lunch money for the rest of this week!!!!
This is a necklace and matching earring set for $4. I like the bone spacer detail , and the fact that it has matching earrings means I can wear them together for a nice night out.
If you break it down, it's pretty much what? $2 for the necklace, and $1 for each earring? Sounds good to me..
This was an absolute steal. $2, gets me this bling bling necklace. For $2, I can put it away for a rainy day when I really need to amplify the look. Like I said during my previous shopping spree - you can't make that thing for $2.
I saw this towards the end of my bingeing. It's a long necklace with pearls and round baubles. It will look quite elegant whenever I wear the high round neck tops. Same kind of idea as my butterfly necklace really. Not as unique, but it will look quite classy I think.
Now this is one classy ring. For $3, I figured why not. Only one catch though. It actually fits better on my middle finger (as seen below) than on my ring finger. Which sucks. Coz at the time, when you try the ring on with the paper, it fit PERFECTLY. But once you take that out, it sort've slip/slides around, due to the heavy bling factor.
The same can be said of the other rings I purchased. At the time I was so excited at finding rings that fit my ring finger, since my fingers are so small. I've learnt some lessons here - 1.always buy something that's slightly tighter, if it's attached to cardboard, and 2. I'm a size XS in Diva rings.
The one of the top left is quite nice, although my favourite is the bottom left. That is again too big for my ring finger, so I've moved it to my middle finger. Doesn't look as bad as the blingy one, when I put it on the middle one though. It sits there reassuringly. The rings ended up being one of the most expensive ones - $5 each. But I figured since I'd be getting more than 1 ring each, for eg, that last one has 6 rings, it's pretty much less than $1 each... not bad...
The last of my purchases were earrings. The first batch - I bought because 1. They match the necklace I bought last week, and 2. It cost a frigging $2!! Last week I swear the exact same pair was selling for $5!! BARGAIN! I was hesitant to pay $10 for the set, but when it's only $7, I say ok.. Nuts, aren't I? LOL.
The other pair.... $5 for 3 sets, I bought because the top earrings, will match my $2 necklace. And I checked that the other colours would go with my colouring - which they do.
So let's see... in total I got 8 seperate things. Let's seperate the earrings from the necklace set. Divide that by $30, it comes to $3.75 for each piece! That's a bargain!!! You can't buy those for that price retail!!
So a few weeks ago I disappeared from vox to go down to sunny Melbourne to attend my cousin's graduation. Now Melbourne is known for it's great shopping deals, and they certainly did not disappoint. I came back laden with packages, and just wanted to share with you a few of the great bargains I picked up.
Since coming back from Melbourne I seem to have rediscovered my dormant shopping bug, and have been carelessly throwing money away, left right and centre, and ended up with a few other purchases as well, which I feel like I can justify by simply showing/sharing these goodies with you also.
So sit back and enjoy the geminisc shopping bug ;)
First off...
This was one of the first things I bought. My cousin and I were in Richmond (an outlet district), and walked into a housey-type store. I came across these 2 foldable cloth boxes. Now these babies usually cost abt $20 each. I got them for a paltry $5 for BOTH BOXES!! I was so chuffed. I asked the lady if she had any more, coz I would've bought ALL of her stock. Except that these were her last ones =(
They're looking so great on my shelf rack atm. Now if only I had a few more.. =(
Then came the dresses.....
Usually I don't spend much. My usual shopping budget per item is about $5-$20 depending on the item. But with my cousin in tow, I suddenly discovered my budget had expanded. It's easy to spend $ when you've got someone standing beside you going, you look GREAT in it! It's an investment piece!! It's so worth it. If I were you, I'd buy it! etc etc.
So here is the most money I've ever spent on a dress.... It was a whopping $109. Although my cousin reckons that in the right boutique it would sell for a lot more, and people would still pay a lot more for it. She argued that it was a total bargain. And I'm sure she's right. I was drawn to the colour, which is a light teal green, the unique flower design down the sides and the pretty beading. You gotta admit, it's not a dress you see every day. And it's satin too. Feels silky enough anyway. You know us girls - always after something that's unique/different/stands out from the crowd. The dress is classy enough and versatile enough to wear from parties to race days (always a conundrum).
Here is another dress that I picked up on the same day. Different style, although you probably can't tell much based on the pic. When I wear it, it reminds me of a very Roman type profile. Very Grecian Urn, if you get my drift. This dress I only paid a paltry $50 for. When I came back to Sydney though, I saw a dress that was VERY similar in design - the only difference was colour and the lack of silver trim on the collar - in Sportsgirl of all places =( I was rather disappointed, since I thought I'd bought a very unique and stylish dress.
But they didn't have the colour anyway. All they sold was a bronzey gold, and a metallic silver. yerchk. But guess how much they were charging that dress for?!
$169!!!
And they didn't even have the silver trimming! I personally think that my dress with it's neutral bone colour looks a lot classier. And for $50.. well. I think I can live with the knowledge that it might not be as unique as I'd like it to be, but at least I know it looks decent on me! LOL.
This was the last of the dresses I bought. I was walking by a shop, and spotted it on the rack. Just the edge of the dress and had to go in to inspect. I've been after pretty summer dresses for a while now. And I thought this was so cute. My cousin advised that it looked even cuter when I wore jeans underneath. I just think the print is quite unique. And I love wearing green. If anything I don't feel like i have enough green in my wardrobe!
This was $30. Again slightly above my usual budget, but very worth it really. I've had such an epiphany after my discovery of real price costs, when I was pricing my own goodies. So these days I do find myself more willing to spend money on things. Although every once in a while I find myself lasping, and thinking, 'no way am i gonna pay THAT...'
Brushes
Whenever I go anywhere, I always keep an eye out for potential mineral makeup storage or tools. In this case, I came across some VERY cool taklon art brushes which I can use as makeup brushes. Now the fan brush I bought after all of you voiced such disgust that I didn't own one (*looks pointedly at Sue*). So very chagrined, I went and made sure I bought one. Both these brushes are of very good quality taklon. They're so soft. I would put them up with Lumiere quality. And it was only $3!!!
The other brush, I am quite proud of. I've been eyeing the dual eye brush (available from both Silk Naturals and Forever Female) for quite a while now. I have the old dual eye brush from Forever Female (natural bristles, not synthetic) and love it to pieces. I just haven't gotten around to buying the new synthetic one. I know that it'll be sooo good. And from the raves from the girls who do own this brush, I know that my instincts were right. Anyway, while checking out the brushes available, I came across brush number 2, and the bristle shape looked exactly like the dual end brush! I was so excited. And for $4.95, I figured why the hell not? So far I'm finding I reach for this brush practically every day. When I use it to foil my shadows, it works BEAUTIFULLY. Absolute bargain!!!
Now by now, I'd bought and spent a lot of stuff/money ON ME, and nothing for the house or the bf. And I admit, I started to feel a little guilty. I didn't want to go home and have him excitedly go, 'what did you get for me?' uh... I came home?
So while wandering through Brunswick St in Fitzroy, I kept my eyes peeled for potential gifts.
On the right is the present I got for my bf. It's a butter dish (you put your butter in it, and it keeps your butter protected, but nice and soft, so easy to spread on your bread). I thought it was very cute and funky.
I even had the lady wrap it up nicely so he could unwrap it like a real gift. He broke our last butter dish that I bought so I spent a bit more money this time ($22) on a spunky one.
On my way back down Brunswick St, I came across this pretty fruit bowl in another fancy house store. I really loved the design. I have a thing for ornate leaves and flowers, and at $33 it seemed like a good buy considering how big it is. We needed another fruit bowl anyway, our two wooden ones always get overfilled whenever we do grocery shopping.
Now despite all these wonderful buys, I must say that the best bargains I found were the shoes. Of all things that girls love to shop for, I do believe that I am a Shoe Girl. Given a shopping challenge, Time and Time Again, I would always go for shoes. I just love shoes. You can never have enough shoes, because a shoe makes or breaks an outfit. A dress can have so many different looks based on the type of shoes you wear. I only ended up buying 2 pairs of shoes in Melbourne, but boy oh boy do I think they were worth it. Given the choice, I'm so glad I bought these two.
The first pair I bought at DFO. It was the last pair they had, so it was abt 2 sizes too big. But as you can see in the pic on the right, I got away with it.
They're leather - upper, lower AND sole. It's hard to find shoes that are all leather. And this pair was.
RRP - $139.
For Mademoiselle Geminisc? A ridiculous $40.
MUAHAHAHAHAHA
Yup, you read right. $40!!! You can tell I was chuckling all the way to the sales counter. Talk about a bargain!!! I don't even wear high heels, let alone stiletto heels. But in this case I was willing to make an exception. And strangely enough they're quite comfy and well balanced too.
However, the creme-de-la-creme of all my shopping bargains was my pair of knee-high italian leather boots. In fact, the box the shoe comes in, claims they are handmade Italian Leather. Which would be quite a find.
The boots themselves are all leather (save for the rubber sole), and are Made in Italy. Now I don't know about you, but most shoes sold here in Australia are Made in China. So it's quite a find to find shoes made elsewhere like Italy. These were also the last pair of boots available. But this time they were IN MY SIZE. And because they were the last pair - obviously they were on sale.
Now guess how much. Go on! Guess!!!!
Oh, who am I kidding? You'll never guess. These boots were reduced from $325 to $199. Now I know that that is way beyond my budget. But Italian leather boots? When my normal knee high black boots that were made in China and not leather were $100? You can't really expect to buy decent boots unless they're over $100. And these were made IN ITALY!!! I MEAN, COME ON!!!
TOTAL BARGAIN.
Now as I was saying before, I also did a bit of shopping once I got back from Melbourne.
But as I was in a congenial mood (I'd been drinking after all) I thought, hrrmm... I could probably talk myself into buying them anyway. $20 being the limit. Anyway, as I went to put the earrings back on the hook, the lady started chatting to me, and pointed out a few more earrings to me. The pair below she pointed out were also quite pretty and would move very sexily when worn. So of course, my curiousity piqued, I had to go and try them on too. Next thing you know I've forked out a whopping $40. Talk about easy sell.
*sigh*
At the end of the day though, I didn't own any sexy earrings like that (and I bet they'll look great with the bone-coloured dress I bought), and the dragonfly earrings went BEAUTIFULLY with my green dress =D So in all, it wasn't a bad buy. Just a bit jarring, since I didn't exactly plan to spend $40 in one sitting!!!
Below are a few other cheapies that I bought in the last few days.
I got the metal utensil stand at St Vinnies for $1. =D Finally, something to hold up my MIY utensils.
The dish beside it is a painter's palette. I'd been reading lots abt girls using palettes to mix their shadows with. For 80cents, I thought I'd try it out.
And $1.50 bought me a set of plastic measuring spoons and cups. A bargain really, considering how many there are. And you can never have enough measuring supplies.
So that's it for my latest shopping spree. Although I'm planning to go out for the next two days and scout out some more bargains. So who knows what else I'll come home with. Hee Hee.
Geminisc a Shopaholic Bargain Hound? NEVER.
